Location: Sopers Hole BVI

Hello, loyal readers,

Today was a day out of the ordinary… I know what you’re thinking… It must have been since I was skipper (= team leader, kinda), but no, not just for that reason; today, we prepped the boat for passage tomorrow. For the past ten days, we have been traveling in the BVI, learning how to live on this floating device, going diving, seeing really cool marine life, becoming certified divers, and getting to know each other. Tomorrow, we leave for the Azores for a 3-week long passage of sailing and learning (of fun and sunburns more like, but shhh…)

So, to prepare for that trip, we started the day with some amazing poppy seeds and lemon muffins breakfast and went on to do our very first BA (boat appreciation), which is just a nice positive and motivating way to say deep cleaning, right after teaching my fellow crew members how to play werewolf. As a clean freak myself, I did end up enjoying it, especially since everyone helped out. Cleaning time went by pretty fast, and we went to get lunch on shore for the first time. We all ran our last little errands and said goodbye to wifi and comfort.

While we were having a WONDERFUL… time cleaning and some shore time, half of our amazing staff had been provisioning for passage, meaning enough food to feed 20 people, three times a day for 20 days plus spare if it takes us a few more days. That’s a lot of food. We all helped load the dinghies (fancy word for zodiac) and bring the food to Vela. But how might we fit so many provisions in so little space, you may wonder? Well, that is when the real fun started; with loud music and good vibes, we, again, all helped to get Vela ready for passage and put the food away in all its secret compartments thanks to Emma’s wonderful food map (and those who know we know I can appreciate a good map when I see one 🙂 After this fun, sweaty and stressful events full of food trowing and cheese slapping… we went for a swim, doing our daily flip competition when our captain Tom arrived with an amazing (known) surprise: PIZZA !!

We ended the day the way we usually do, with a squeeze question. If you don’t know what that is, then.. you probably haven’t been following our blog properly. That, or we are horrible blog writers… Anyway, the question of the day was, from my point of view, an inevitable question: In the case of an emergency where we run out of food in the middle of the Atlantic, who are we eating first? I am very relieved to say that I would be safe enough if the trip took a dark turn.

This is Lucie signing for tonight. See you in 20 days 🙂
