Location: Pink Beach, Komodo Island
Today started with the usual seven AM wake-up followed by a delicious crepe breakfast from our wonderful head chef, Elanore, and sous chefs, Lainey and Kylie. After breakfast, we picked up anchor and left Kalong for a quick little sail or, as one may say, jaunty boi, over to the pink beach. During the little 45 to the hour-long passage, we had Marine Biology with Anna. During Marine Bio, we had a fish I.D. quiz, which is always fun (type 2 fun). After class, we had snorkel time around the anchorage, which was pretty beautiful. After our fun little snorkel, we had lunch, which was some pasta with red sauce, which I tore up real fast. After lunch, we had Oceanography with Steph, which was honestly a pretty depressing lecture because we talked about all the ways humans suck and are killing the environment. To cheer the mood up literally as class ended, the rescue diver students had to jump into action because Gabe and Anna “died” while scrubbing the boat hull. I got a good laugh out of the rescue scenario, as per usual. Next, Lainey and I went on a DMIT dive with Steph to make a dive site briefing and explore the reef, which was super awesome. During the dive, I saw a pretty big mantis shrimp and a few mandarin fish, which Lainey and I showed each other because they’re really, really pretty. Mandarin fish are a bucket list item of mine, so when I found them, naturally, I had to spa out underwater. While we were diving, the other students got to enjoy the pink beach. After the DMIT dive, Lainey and I also visited the beach, which was a super nice time to relax. Soon, we headed back to Argo for dinner, where the chef staff + gabe prepared the best chicken I have had during my time on Argo. Right before dinner, we had surprise visitors from another boat at the anchorage, and knowing Spencer, he was fast to make friends. We had one of the most beautiful sunsets tonight, which was super insane. After dinner, it brings me to where I’m writing this blog. After I write this blog, we’re gonna go for a night dive, where I’m probably going to get hypothermia and die because it’s so cold.
