Location: Dominica

What a big day! We got to sleep in at 7:30 and shared a delicious breakfast of yogurt, frozen berries, and granola while still laughing and chatting about the perfect day yesterday.

After an efficient cleanup, we got ready for Lloyds science class (also known as Big Brain Time). He led us through a discussion about our trip down the Indian River the other day, going through our collected data and drawing ideas and conclusions. He walked us through how light refraction directly correlates to underwater plant lifes ability to photosynthesize. He then led us through an experiment to examine light refraction in the ocean water. Students got into groups and tested the water clarity by dropping Skittles and M&Ms overboard, comparing the different colors, and then plotting it onto a graph. My group, consisting of James, Gautham, and me, may or may not have tested the quality of the candies during the experiment.

Lunch was tomato curry, thanks to Emma and todays sous chefs, Aidan and Mallory, along with some FANTASTIC freshly-baked bread by Clifford, todays Breadmaker. Ben brought up a couple of lionfish from his morning scuba dive, which were de-thorned and dissected. Lionfish are the only fish in Dominica that visitors can catch, as they are invasive and a huge strain on the other native species in the area.

We had one final jump-in shower/swim in Dominica, with Richey and Emerson performing backflips off the bow. Once everyone was dry, we prepped Vela for passage and got sailing back to Antigua! I loved the view of Dominica passing by the boat as the sun was setting I feel so grateful to be here. Well be in Antigua by tomorrow afternoon!
