Location: Tobago Cays

Hello family and friends!

Today’s a good day. We started off with some very yummy cereal. It tasted like cereal. After that, we got all ready to set off on passage to Tobago Cays. This includes taking tarps down, sail covers off, halyards on, and stubbing your toes on at least 4-5 d-rings or cleats. Whatever sinks your anchor. While prepping, everyone that’s part of the student-led passage coming up was getting to learn their roles just a little bit more.

Tyler was with Freddy learning about the mind, body, and soul of the Skipper position. Along with Tyler was Henry listening to Freddie’s skills on how to speak to the engine room and how to tell it to do certain things. And then there was me (Bubba) just hanging out with First mate Elle and learning more about the boat. Once we got anchors up and started getting underway, we raised sails, and there was tons of wind while we did it, so it was pretty technical and took a weeeeeeeeee bit of time.

After sails, we got a few moments of rest, and then it was lunchtime. Lunch was really good. We had some veggie wrap things with chicken and other leaves like spinach. Unluckily, due to the sea state, I think a few of the students got to taste their meal twice! (Going down and coming back up). After sails went up, some of us had seamanship while others got a bit of studying or rest in. After seamanship, some of us helped put the boat to sleep while the others hid. It’s kinda of a harsh game of hide n seek. We work, and they sleep. We got to take ocean showers and see some turtles because we’re in turtle land. Although we are not allowed to ride the turtles im really hoping one of them picks me up, so I have no other option but to ride it…because if I was to turn the turtle down, it might make him upset. Nobody likes a mad turtle…especially Freddy, who is deathly afraid of turtles and cries profusely when he sees a turtle.
