Hi! Its Weston again! Boo. Today, Captain Nick was the skipper, but because the captain takes quite a bit of work, he has outsourced the blog writing, and I will, once more, be guiding you through todays events on board. By now, you know the drill: I talk about breakfast and morning activities, make some fabulous and quite tasteful jokes, go over the afternoon activities and dinner, and then write a blog post that gets proofread by some people on board who are able to set aside their sense of humor for the sake of avoiding unemployment, a lawsuit, or at least a mildly alarmed phone call from a parent. However, today, Ill spice things up because I have power, and I might as well make some fun out of it. Editors, beware, and be damned.
After dinner today, most of the rest of the crew and I departed for the saloon, where we played card games and feasted on grapes and goldfish (fine delicacies on the high seas). A few of us also worked on a special end-of-trip project that Ill let a later blog writer expand upon, but I will say that the story about the origin of this tradition at Seamester is one that Sigmund Freud would have called gripping and intensely compelling, ahead of its time, and a certain middle school math teacher would call saddening yet handsome. (the story/series of memories are from said teacher).
Dinner was also scrumptious, with a slightly sweet and cheesy biscuit, salad, and a tasty pasta that was as if mac and cheese were minimalist.
This afternoon, we had a couple of groups doing a couple of different things. The majority of the people on Ocean Star and the catamaran decided to spend their time ashore in the town we were anchored off of, checking out stores and souvenir shops. This resulted in a great haul of purchases afterward, ranging from hats to cartons of fruit juice to four people getting the same shirt (I believe they got a photo). As for the rest of us, we took the chance to have a final dive here in the Caribbean. We had been warned that visibility in the water would be especially bad after the storm, which is why many decided not to go. For those of us who did, though, the vis was actually not bad! We saw some black and white spotted moray eels, a green turtle, lots of coral, and a conch shell big enough to cause a serious emergency if it happened to materialize above and fall onto someone like a cartoon anvil. It was a very cool way to round up our diving here in these warm waters!
Lunch today was so good. We had BBQ chicken made with real chicken (weve been eating mostly canned chicken; well take the win), put into burger buns with some coleslaw and potatoes on the side. It was really, really good and a great hunger quencher after our ziplining that morning.
Once wed finished up breakfast, we all cleaned up and got ready to go zipline! We took some cabs on about a twenty-minute drive to the ziplining place, where we met the sweetest cat and dog. They both got very many pets from everyone. Very cute. I miss my dog. If youre reading this and you have a pet, send a picture of them to your student. Anyways. Ziplining was also really awesome! We went on about 12 ziplines that all pulled us through a rainforest at Mach speeds that would make even Tom Cruise from Top Gun pass out. But we still did it, as usual. Next, we hopped into the gift shop of the zipline company, grabbing a few candies, trinkets, and soda. Tip: if youre in the Caribbean, get the grapefruit soda Ting. Very good. Very thirst-quenching.
Breakfast was fantastic, with bagels, eggs, cream cheese, and some nice crispy baconperfect way to start the day.
And thats the end of our day! I assume that this will be my last time writing a blog post, which means Ill stop existing after you finish reading this. Food is for thought and for your hunger-quenching. I hope that youve enjoyed these blogs and that youll keep reading even as I depart because we still have a few more days left that promise to be just as gripping and intensely compelling, even if they arent wrought by my typing hands. Have fun, be good to one another, Ill be signing off for (probably) the final time. Bye!
-Weston F.
