Location: Prince Rupert Bay, Dominica
I apologize in advance for the number of tree photos. The trees are awesome, though!
Today we went on a tour of the Indian River here in Dominica! It was awesome–we split into two groups, and each group piled into a small boat. Two guides paddled the boats down the river, past mangroves, tons of crabs, an iguana, and countless colorful birds. And most of all–incredible trees. The roots of these trees, often partially submerged in water, were amazing (see photos). Halfway through the tour, we stopped at an abandoned restaurant called the Bush Bar, and we walked around the small paths that surrounded the restaurant. There were incredible flowers and birds all around. Then, we got back onto the boats and saw something crazy–the hut where Jack Sparrow and the other pirates visit Calypso in Pirates of the Caribbean! This is where they filmed that scene in the movie. After that, we finished our river tour and headed back to Ocean Star.
Lunch was a buffet of Thanksgiving leftovers, both main course, and dessert. After lunch, we had Leadership and Marine Biology, and then we had some free time before dinner. Some people practiced freediving. Some watched the sunset, some cooked, and some did other tasks (big shoutout to Lucy and Ash for cleaning the dorades). Dinner was chicken and waffles, which was a fan favorite. Thank you, Logan, Stefi, and Teddy, for the great meals today! My squeeze question was “tell us a joke,” and there were definitely some knee slappers. After dinner, we’re going to do a Rescue Diving exercise where we learn how to operate an emergency oxygen tank. That is all for today!
P.S. Much love to the fam squad.-Soph
