Location: Cape Town, South Africa
Today was a great day. It started out as a slow morning as everyone was dragging themselves out of their bunks to the sound of Pitbull. After everyone was awake, we went out to breakfast on shore! We got back to the boat at 9 to jump right into our first marine bio and leadership classes, taught by Perry and Emma. After class was complete, we had lunch, which was rice and chicken (Made by Erin and Mac). It was delicious! After cleanup was done, we all got ready to go to the beach! We went to Camps Bay. On the beach, we played football and swam in the very cold water, which was refreshing on a hot South African day. Moving off the beach, we walked in the lovely town next to the beach and got some food and did some shopping. At 5:15, the bus picked us up, and we went back to Vela, where we were greeted by Perry, who made us burritos. After dinner, we did chores, played some cards, and solved some Rubik’s cubes. Then we went to the mall to get the last-minute stuff we needed for the passage. Grant surprised us all with two dozen Krispy Kreme donuts! Hopefully, tomorrow we will be able to get underway to St. Helena. As sad as we are to leave Cape Town, we are itching to get going on our first leg of our Atlantic crossing.
To the Richmonds and McBrides, hope all is well! Give Poppy lots of hugs for me. Hannah Y says happy early birthday to her mom!
