Location: underway to Azores
As we continue our passage to the Azores, we are becoming more comfortable with life underway. Adjusting to our new and unusual sleeping schedules has been made much easier by clear night skies full of stars, beautiful sunrises, and good company. It seems as though everyone is more surefooted, and seasickness appears to be mostly behind us. Today began with clear skies just before sunrise, allowing for a lesson in celestial navigation. When lunch rolled around, everyone was excited to try the ceviche, which was made from the Mahi we caught the day before. After lunch, we went straight into class to learn more about the many lines and their functions, along with a tutorial in basic navigational skills that will allow us to manually plot our position as we make our way north and eventually across the Atlantic. Post-class showers on deck were much needed after a day in the sun. Catherine and Claire took it upon themselves to make brownies, which came after a delicious dinner prepared by Henry and Allison. Spirits remain high as we all prepare for a night of sleep/watches, which may have something to do with the fact that we all have Alex’s oddly catchy rap about Greece and his Grandma stuck in our heads.
Wish us fair winds and following seas,
Dylan
