Location: Gibraltar
WERE FINALLY BACK ON LAND!!!!!!!!!
The day started off with watch team 3 arriving in Gibraltar, guided in by pilot whales. However, throughout the night, each anchor watch had tasks in preparation for docking. I woke everybody up with the song Africa, which was both hated and loved. We then ate overnight oats for breakfast. They were low-key kinda bad, but they had Nutella and jam and peanut butter to make the MUCH better, and Brig opened a bag of frozen fruit so horribly that none of it wound up in a bowl, poor deckies. After breakfast, we did a mini boat appreciation. It started with inventory, then cleaning the deck, cabins, galley, salon, etc. Avery, Mim, Zac, and I had a water fight with the hose. We finished around twelve in time for lunch. We ate Pallea for lunch, cooked by Logan, Ella, and Andrew, not entirely sure any of them had previously known what Pallea was, but I dont think they did that badly.
After lunch, we quickly cleaned up so we could go to shore in an urban city for the first time in like a month. We went to the botanical gardens, which were super pretty, as well as the zoo for previously trafficked animals, sadly. There wasnt too much at the zoo, unfortunately. A lot of the animals were hiding from the sun, but there were a ton of lemurs and birds, even bats, surprisingly. And tuttals. It was actually so hot that I felt like dying at one point, but I think the vending machine had everyones hearts. If the locals didnt think we were American when we showed up, they definitely did by the time we were all huddled around a single vending machine. Lowkey I think it broke a couple of times or it was just tweaking out, idk. Tomorrow we have a day-long hike up a mountain, and I dont know how they expect us to do that, honestly.
After not walking consistently for like a month, Im talking like a 20-mile hike rn UP HILL. Just kidding, its gonna be so fun once we get past the dying phase of why did we agree to this. After the botanical gardens, we had some raccoons who broke off script and scavenged for food like seagulls in a vending machine nearby (Dylan, Payton, Brady, Brig, and Alex). Though after the nice walk through the gardens, we went to get ice cream on the way back to the boat as well as coffee for the caffeine addicts. Some of us even got personal cakes and bakery items at a shop nearby. Our shopping day is in two days, so everyone has only bought food. I would like to point out that only a few of us wore tourist outfits, most looking very presentable, only to immediately go back to being slobs back on the boat, myself included. Once we got back to the boat, we had some downtime before the chefs finished dinner, lentil soup, yay. With our final essay in leadership due tomorrow, some worked on that; however, most just hung out around the boat, talking or sleeping. FIREEE DAY!!!! After dinner, we had your regular squeeze question of who the person next to yous childhood celebrity crush was, and finished dinner by singing the pen pineapple apple pen song. After everyone cleaned up, they went straight into being screenagers again because we got our phones back.
