Bonjour from Martinique! We started off our first full day with both our science classes (Oceanography and Marine Biology) right after breakfast. After our classes we had the entire day free to explore the first French island of the voyage. We head to land to explore the cafes and open markets while adjusting to using the Euro-ooh la la! The markets were filled with crazy costumes in honor of Mardi Gras, from hats to sequined dresses and boa scarves. After exploring the island most of us came back to good ol’ Ocean Star to work on some homework assignments and escape the hot sun below deck for a few hours. Before dinner some of us headed back to shore to watch the Mardi Gras parade. The city was celebrating with crazy costumes, lots of red attire, and even coconut bikini tops (for the males!) as the sun set on another beautiful day here.
