Location: Komodo National Park, Indonesia

Our first full day in Komodo was filled with joy as we basked in the toasty Indonesian sun. We woke up at approximately 7 AM and had breakfast for the ages. Said breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, fresh fruit, and an assortment of spreads and condiments. The gang quickly devoured the wonderful meal before getting ready for the most important part of the day, scuba diving! Those who are getting their open water certifications took their first plunge, and all went perfectly. We explored untouched coral reefs and saw a multitude of fish and invertebrates. Those who are getting their rescue diving certifications stayed on Argo, caught up on homework, and jumped in the water for a nice swim.

Lunch consisted of delicious veggie chili, with some rice and other sides. This meal fueled the open water divers up for another learning dive that followed lunch. On this dive, they went over more principles about diving and continued to develop their skills underwater. The advanced and rescue divers got to keep relaxing and/or doing homework on their well-deserved day off. Some students learned how to backflip off the boat and into the water, which was quite a monumental accomplishment.

Dinner was another one for the books, as the chefs cooked up an unbelievable shrimp pasta, accompanied by some nicely toasted garlic bread. This meal satisfied the whole crew, and it has prepared us for a day full of diving and learning tomorrow. We are about to have our seamanship class and further develop our knowledge about this vessel, which we call home. Tomorrow will be an early wake-up, and I can assure you we couldn’t be more excited.

Signing off,
Sam Peacock
