Location: Pigeon Island, Guadeloupe
As the sun rose this morning the crew of Ocean Star woke to begin our passage to Pigeon Island. We untied our stern line from the rocks and then hauled up the anchor. We enjoyed delicious oatmeal as we crossed the Canal Des Saints. In the lee of Guadeloupe our position was calculated using only conventional means – this involved calculating our speed by dropping items of fruit off the bow, and then taking a three-point fix. Upon arrival the first group of divers loaded into the dinghy to dive in the Jacque Cousteau Marine Park. The water was amazingly clear and calm and there were plenty of large groupers and small blennies. After lunch, the other two groups completed the dive, and then it was study time on board till dinner. A feast of Pizza Baguettes was enjoyed for dinner and now the evening is free for some further studying.
