Location: Agadir, Morocco
Hello everyone, this is your Halloween captain speaking (Jem). We arrived in Agadir early in the morning today with all hands on deck; of course, not before Liv scared the spirit out of watch team three by hiding in a gumbie suit for a little Halloween prank.
Being the skilled captain that I am, dressing up as today, I masterfully commanded the vessel into a tight slip with Jem on the port side stern line. Unfortunately, he did not have the right angle and went through the line in the water just short of the dock. After a double-time “boat-to-bed”, we gathered in the cockpit for a late breakfast prepared by Gianluca with sous chef Rachel and Nacho. After breakfast, many people hastily attempted to finish their oceanography literature review presentations, which were due today at 6 pm. Meanwhile, Josh Allen (Thatcher) and I played a short-lived game of catch before I fumbled our football into the marina water.
By lunchtime, most people had gotten into their costumes, and most people’s costumes were portrayals of other crew members. Liv and Luca as each other, Rachel and Shane as each other, Alexa as Charlie, Emily as Aidan, and so on (yours truly, as Nick). My personal favorite was Nacho, Aidan, and Charlie as Argo herself.
After lunch began the actual Halloween festivities/competition, these consisted of a costume contest (of course, going to watch team 2), apple bobbing in some questionable dishy pit water, a dance contest (shoutout to the goated dance partner Sam and our invention of the 2-6 dance move), and lastly, Halloween trivia. Needless to say, watch team 2 took the cake with a valiant runner-up effort from watch team 1. Charlie (leader of watch team 3) was pretty embarrassed by the end. Following the competition was the trick or treating, in which each cabin put out candy for the rest to walk around and take (and not eat it below deck of course). Fortunately, we had no classes in the afternoon and instead, a showing of”A Nightmare Before Christmas in the cabin (with some homemade popcorn cooked by Mama Meg).
Of course, we had to squeeze in the daily Mario Kart grind with Teo, Mathew, and Bryson. It, admittedly, was an off day for me, not clocking even one podium finish.
Dinner was a hit as Gianluca made some fire meatballs and mashed potatoes. I wrapped up the night with a controversial squeeze question, sparking numerous debates on whether a hot dog is a sandwich or not. I cannot write too much more, as the shore showers are calling my name (especially after exclusively showering on Argo the entire trip).
Tomorrow we head off on our overnight glamping trip in Marrikesh, which everyone’s very excited for. That’s all for now, peeps. (Happy late anniversary, M+D!!)
Sincerely,
The captain’s arch enemy,
Jem
