Location: Gustavia, St. Barthelemy
Today was definitely an early start on Ocean Star. I kicked off the day at 4:00 AM for my anchor watch shift with Hana, and shortly after, the rest of the crew got moving at 5:00 AM to prepare the ship for our passage to St. Barts. There was a lot of work to be done, including hoisting sails, securing dinghies, packing scuba gear up, and more. The wind was far stronger today than expected, so a 5-6-hour passage from Saba to St. Barts turned into an 11-hour passage. The crew split passage watch up in to 2 hour shifts throughout the day, and as a member of watch team 1 I looked over the boat with Lucia, Nick, Eric, skye, Ben and Meg. The time goes by quick with a fun crew, and once each team finished watch they got to rest for 4 hours until starting up again. Shoutout to Tevon for having such a good attitude despite his seasickness!
Once arriving in St. Barts, we prepared Ocean Star to be docked in the marina. Before stepping foot on land, we all had to be checked in with customs, which Ill say went much smoother here than in Saba, fortunately. At this point, we ate a dinner of quesadilla and cowboy caviar on deck, followed by a trip across the marina to some French gelato (I highly recommend the coffee Leigois). We ended the night with an exam to get our VHF communication certifications.
It was a long and tiring day, but Id do it all again!
