Location: Petit Piton, St. Lucia

Helloooooo, from day 24 on, Vela!!!!

It was our last day at our anchorage in the Pitons, and (just like every day on this boat) we had a wonderful day!

Half of us spent our morning 60 feet underwater, while the other half of us did our Emergency First Response class and then had some time to work on our Oceanography essays due tonight. I was in the afternoon dive group with Calum, Dylan, Nick, Ellie, Sharp, Lo, Sofia, Annika, and Audrey. It was our first real drift dive of the trip (Superman Dive!!!!), and we saw lots of fun fish along the insanely cool coral wall. Audrey especially enjoyed having her moment with the fish while Annika drank approximately half of the ocean. When my group got back to the boat, we had my personal favorite time of day, Ocean Shower time! There is literally nothing better than our ocean showers. We then all spent our little bit of free time doing some more essay work, napping, reading, playing chess, or swimming (or all of the above). Sharp spent an inordinate amount of time looking at (and pointing to) Frigates. I’m still not 100% sure what they are or what she’s talking about.

Before dinner, we had a fire drill, where we learned how to man the fire hose. During dinner (which was delish, thank you Sofia, Annika, and Ellie!), Tominatrix had the wonderful idea to all hide from Anna in the chart house, which Smash did ruin by not hiding properly. We all forgave her, and things are running smoothly again aboard Vela at this point in the evening.

Currently behind me in the chart house, Audrey is showing Sydnei the flying squirrel Olympics on youtube???? Idk. We leave tomorrow to go back to Rodney Bay for some covid testing and shore time!!!!

I’ve said this 1000 times, but I have never in my life heard as much laughter as I have in the past 24 days. I know I speak for all of us when I say we feel so incredibly lucky to be here with these wonderful people!
