Location: East London, South Africa
For some, today started very early. Watch team one had the 12 to 4 watch this morning. I asked if anything fun happened on their watch, and I was told that just sailing stuff happened. The next watch team just told all of us at dinner that they saw around 50 dolphins and a whale breach, and they did not wake any of us so we could watch. They were on watch until 8 am, and we were about 10 miles from East London. This is when my watch team was woken and took over. Since we were so close, we dropped the forward and main staysails and got the lines and fenders ready for the dock. I was on colent watch until we got into the port, and then I went to help with docking. Griffin, Nico, and Ali went to the dock spot so we could toss the lines to them. The wind was very strong, so we had to all focus on getting the lines on the dock correctly so it would all go smoothly. We got onto the dock at ten-ish am, and then most of the watch team then made themselves breakfast while Smash and Zoe started making lunch for everyone. For the most part everyone woke up natural and was really excited top wake up in a new location on dock already, it was nice that most were awake because I do not enjoy waking people up but it is part of the job. For lunch, we had bagel BLTs, which were really good. It was the first time we had bagels, and I wish someone had made them sooner.
After lunch, we put the boat to bed, which did not take long because we were getting pretty quick with it after doing it so many times. After we had around 30 minutes before we took our Marine Bio final exam, some of us took the time to study, and some took it to relax a little to get focused. The exam did not take that long, and we were all done by 2 pm. After the exam, we had our final Oceanography class, in which we gave our group project presentations. There were four groups, and each group gave a 10-minute presentation. I can not remember off the top of my head what all the groups did research on, but all the presentations were good, in my opinion. Once the presentations were done, we had free time until dinner. Some called their family back home to check in, some watched movies in the salon, others took naps, and some of us read. I called my dad to check in for a while and then read the book I am trying to finish so I can start the second in the series.
Dinner was on time, and it was chicken, mashed potatoes, and some veggies. Dinner was really good, and the squeeze was full of laughs and a good appreciation of the day. During clean-up, Ava was going around using her water gun to shoot, which was really funny until she shot me. I then stole the gun and got her back, and then it turned into a mini-war for a few minutes. Tom told some of the boys that after dinner, he could give them haircuts, so that will be happening soon tonight.
So, this is my last blog. It was (so fun) informing you all about our days when I was skipper. Peace out
See you soon, fam!!!
