Location: Dominica to Antigua
Hello friends and family,
Today has been quite an adventure on Ocean Star. We started the day with early wake-ups at 6:25, everyone is very excited to take charge in a student-led passage to the French port of Les Saintes. Kasey, as the skipper of this passage, did an amazing job with passage prep, getting the ship tidy in good timing for a 7 am anchor raise by the deck team. The engineering team started the engine, the navigators plotted our course, and Kasey took the helm, going a whopping 4 knots all the way to Les Saintes. With the wind not on our side, we had a relaxing sail with some good jams from DJ Amanda. A few hours later, we arrived at our destination, slowly approaching the beautiful-looking anchorage. Unfortunately, to our surprise, there was a ban placed on entering Les Saintes just today, so we could not anchor there. That did not bring down our spirits, however. We quickly moved on to plan B and started making our way to the bigger island of Guadeloupe, just a couple miles ahead. We played fun games on deck and had many laughs. With time, we learned that we were also not welcomed in Guadeloupe due to the virus. Many customs and immigration offices are closed at the moment. We may have been a little disappointed, but we reminded each other how lucky we are to have Ocean Star and to be on a boat that can take us where we want. We had a wholesome dinner of vegetarian curry and rice made by Tye. We are excited for an overnight passage filled with watch team fun as we make our way to the homeland of Antigua.
Until next time,
Dory
