Days on passage are passing so fast that we don’t see the time pass. Since we pass four hours of our night on watch, the day is really beginning at noon. But night watch seems to always be mentioned in the appreciation of the day. It is odd how some weirdly interesting conversation can come at 2am. It might be about how crazy it would have been to live in the pirate era, where you were not sure if you would survive after a paper cut, to Emy showing cooper how to make a fake slap in the face, or arguing on whether the water is blue (according to Zoe) or purple (according to Owen). This last one was really an active debate. The watch team are also in a competition to see who would be able the have the weirdest wake up. Also, John has bought the most atrocious “monkey” I ever seen. Also know as Mac the devil’s monkey, he was used, with a flashing red light under his neck, to wake Ghost up. She responded with a fair reaction involving her tackling Zoe… Hope I won’t be the next one. (Wanted to take a picture, but it is now hiding in some secret place…)
In the morning (noon), I climb the main companion way to be able to report the temperature to my follow crewmate and saw the sun reflecting on the ocean til the horizon, watch team 3 raising the main sail and mostly, getting the most beautiful smile and a big good morning I ever had from Lindsay and Jimmy. Is there a most beautiful way to wake up ? Hard to tell..
After lunch, half of us where in Nav master class where the other ones could enjoy our free time. Calum, Skyler and Joel installed a fishing line at the back of the boat. Despite Allie’s energy when she thought there might be something, they didn’t catch any fish. During this time, Alison and Zoe were learning the sign language alphabet which they used to communicate for the rest of the day. During marine bio class, we were all trying not to cry. We can’t really tell why. It might be because of the beauty of the under world fish we where leaning about or because or the onion that were cut in the galley.. who knows ?
We finished the day with the usual squeeze during which we had some flying rice crispies all over the cockpit (good luck to the deckie team). We also all agree on the fact that monkey are the rudest animal on earth. The best example of that, you ask ? Mac ! Last time, I ended it with “Temps du menage” which is a french sentence for time to clean, but it soon had become “Temps du fromage” which would mean time for the cheese (thanks to Ash). This time, my french lesson had continued with “Hissez les voiles”, which mean putting the sails up. I’m really curious to see how this one would go !
On a final note, I am glad to tell you that we did a full circle of the job wheel ! Which mean no more excuses, we are fully part of the crew. And since the last time I had write on the blog, we manage to be able to count to 33… in some rare occasion 😉
To my parents, my grand-parents, Pascale and Catherine : Je vous aime fort and I’m thinking of you all the time
p.s. I think someone is getting an ear piercing right now in the galley…. (don’t worry mom, it’s not me) (Editor’s note: don’t worry moms at large)
