Felt like Christmas day without being in Christmas. The day has come, these 14 amazing days on passage have finally come to an end, and the petrichor was filling the air. Having the 8 to 12 watch was definitely a benefit this time with it being the last time watch team 1 is together which btw where the best, but besides that seeing the hilly peaks of Mauritius was a feeling like no other. The best way to describe it would be a fever dream that you never wanna wake up from, and the best part was that you are awake and it’s all real. Being on passage for 2 weeks, I definitely thought not seeing land would be harder, but having my watch team of Alice, Hannah, Keith, Henry, and Adda made the world of difference in surpassing and forgetting where I was or what day it was. As the time of 10 am hit, boat appreciation(BA) was in full swing. We weren’t letting the day pass us by, as we didn’t fully arrive till late noon, so getting an early start was in our best interest. Looking forward to our Indian food sign out. This was our fastest BA, giving everyone, and especially me, time to do my makeup and shower, but the other way around, you know, not in that order. Anyways, back to how BA went, it was literally perfect being able to walk up and down the companion way and feeling the difference in cleanliness. With being on deck duty, mainly Maia, Fin, and I put blue fuzzy cleaning gloves on our feet and went sliding; who said cleaning can’t be fun? I did actually before this trip.but now my perspective has changed, and cleaning is the most rewarding thing(yes, Mom, I’ll clean more at home). With BA coming to an end, touching land was a go. The leap of faith from the cap rail to the shore was so unreal. I felt like I was floating. Who knew being on solid ground could be so rewarding? Feeling cement on my feet and feeling the dirt build up on my feet was a feeling I thought I’d never miss. That being said, having on-shore bathrooms and showers was UNREAL. Everything about today was unreal. The only way to describe it. After all that, the walk to the Indian restaurant has begun, hoping, skipping, jumping, and galloping over the best feeling ever.
