Location: Port de Soller
Today, watch group 1 woke at 4 am for our 4-hour watch shift. Around 6, most of us made some ramen and tea. It hit the spot. The sun rose at seven and was the most beautiful sunrise ever. We all placed bets on what would be the exact time of the sunrise. I was about 4 minutes off. Shane was dead on, so he won. Around 8 o’clock, the watch team 2 came out for their 8-12 shift. We all went right to bed after our shift. Those four hours went by super fast, and soon it was time for lunch. For lunch, we had some delicious fried rice made by Carlo and Gabe. After our lunch and it was time for clean up. Everyone did their chores of the day, and then it was time for our last IYT (International Yacht Training) course. Shane taught some important rules and guidelines on how to be a crew member on the boat. We all took our test after, and we have yet to see the results!
I’m pretty sure everyone did pretty well. After class, we came back on deck and began striking sails. It took around 1 hour to fully strike them all. Then we motored to our destination. We have now made it to the Spanish islands, Mallorca, at the Port de Soller! We were all so excited to jump in the water. The water is so blue here! Then it was time for the swim test. This consisted of four laps along the boat and a ten-minute tread. Everyone passed! (Thanks mom and dad for making me do swim team for 5 years). We had our first ocean shower of the trip, which was super fun! It was soon time for dinner, also made by Carlo and Gabe. We had chicken fajitas. Then time for a clean up! I’m really excited for our first night anchored. Today was a great day, and I’m ready to see what tomorrow brings!
