Location: Tenerife, Canary Islands
Hello family and friends! Skipper Veronica Mann here to tell you all about the exciting endeavors of the crew’s last day on land in Tenerife, Canary Islands. The day started early for Argo, a sharp 6:30 am wake up followed by a quick cereal breakfast. We had an early bus to catch in order to make it to the start of the trail to hike Chinamada, which was known for its caves and the houses within them. After a quick drive, the bus dropped us off at the middle of the mountain and we began our descent. We passed through Las Caboneros, a sleepy mountain town nestled in the magnificent mountains of Tenerife. The terrain changed from cool jungle forestry to hot rocky mountains covered in cacti very quickly and everyone was shocked at the beauty and uniqueness of the trail. We ended the hike at a town called Punta Hildago, where we found a friendly restaurant with excellent pizza and even better banana splits. That first dessert didn’t stop some of us from getting a second when the familiar sound of an ice cream truck came around the corner as we were waiting for the bus to bring us back to Argo. I think I speak for most of us when I say that this was a great way to explore Tenerife, exercise our legs, and say goodbye to land for the next couple of weeks.
