Location: Les Saintes
My morning began at 6:45 with a perfect cup of instant coffee (with salt), the lingering sunrise, and discussions of last nights adventures. Our first night dive filled our dreams with eels, pufferfish, bioluminescence, and flashlights running out of battery 30ft down. Following breakfast, we learned about Oceanography with Ignacio and watched videos of fish creating symmetrical sedimentary designs on the ocean floor to attract mates. After class, we set out for a day of exploring Les Saintes! On our way to lunch, we got sidetracked by gelato, buttery croissants, and the beautiful architecture of this new island. With many treats fueling our energy and putting off lunch, we were convinced by two members of the group to hike 45 minutes to the top of the island to see a historic fort. However, only four people remained on the hike after 10 minutes. Gigi, Madeline, and I saw a path leading to the beach and found that immensely more appealing than a long walk. We jumped in with all our clothes and drifted around the crystal clear waters. Leaving the beach, we decided we could not put off lunch any longer and stopped in a restaurant, sitting at a table that looked directly out onto the ocean. With the menu being entirely in French, we picked three random dishes and enjoyed the Les Saintes specialty of a coconut tart. After everyone regrouped at the boat (taking many detours on the way), we ate pizza, bagels, and watched the sun set over the PERFECT ROCKS surrounding Ocean Star. Tomorrow we set sail for a new island, and I cannot wait to see what adventures the new day will bring!
