Good evening from Mayreau!
The day started like usual, except that I (the skipper) was almost late to wake up the crew. I woke up to one of my shipmates’ alarms 15 minutes before wake-up time but thankfully made it from the off-campus housing to the salon in plenty of time. After arriving on time, I turned up those jams. The usual few jumped right up, and the usual few stayed planted in their bunks, but no need to name names today. Breakfast was cooked by Staff Stef and was some delicious chia seed pudding. Following breakfast, we had Oceanography and Seamanship in the salon with AC. Lunch commenced at the normal 12:00 pm with baked potatoes. Staff Stef had to go buy this morning. Unfortunately, all of our previous potatoes rotted a few days ago in Tobago Cays.
After lunch, we began the much anticipated Challenge Course. Think ‘The Amazing Race.’ There were three teams consisting of the watch team groups. The challenge course involved solving clues and completing challenges across the whole island of Mayreau while starting and ending on Ocean Star. The teams began at 15-minute intervals to head off to land with the first clue. Each team needed to return to the boat with six clues, a sail tie, and a map. Teams took varying approaches to the games, some highly competitive and some relaxed. My team, in particular, bought souvenirs from a lady on the beach and many cold drinks. Some teams took long detours (my team), others forgot clues (my team) or maps, and some led other teams astray. My team, unfortunately, returned without all six clues. Once realizing our mistake, Tate and I sprinted back to the beach, sprinted down the beach, retrieved the missing clue, sprinted back down the beach, and sprinted back to the boat. We still came in last place, yet we’re winners at heart (with cold drinks) and still got a full walking/running tour of beautiful Mayreau. Team 1 and 3 ended up tied and will be fighting for the championship and spam tomorrow. Their challenge will be apple bobbing in our disgusting, dirty, gross, and stinky dishwater after dinner. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s blog. Perhaps, last place is looking pretty good right about now. 🙂
I am exhausted after our long, adventure-filled day and am looking forward to tea time with Stefi and Teddy before watching Pirates of the Caribbean in my bunk. I love you, mom and dad, and I hope you are enjoying the quiet house without me around. You guys would be so proud of me. I brushed out all of my dreads today too!
