Location: Manta Point, Komodo
Hello, friends and family of Argo! We’re almost two months through our trip. How crazy is that?
Our day started early again with everyone’s favorite morning activity: rescue scenarios! Although it took a few tries, we finally passed both of our rescue scenarios, and we’re well on our way towards getting those certifications. After a great breakfast of fruit turnovers prepared by Will, we headed toward Manta Point. Immediately after arriving, we hopped right into the dinghies. As soon as we got the water, our breaths were taken away. Absolutely massive mantas filled our vision. These gentle giants must have been twice as wide as we were tall and were completely unfazed by our presence. At one point, we had five 10-foot long mantas encircle each other. It was truly a sight to behold.
Once we returned to the boat, we had some delicious baked potatoes for lunch and some breaching mantas off of the bow. Our day continued with another slew of dives with the mantas. Each dive group seemed to have a unique experience, whether it was the most aggressive triggerfish ever, parades of mantas, or some ripping current that pushed the group all over the place. After a long day, we finished out the evening with bagels, a surprisingly comforting meal. We have another day of diving tomorrow, so I think we all hope to get a good night’s rest without fear of a rescue situation lurking around the corner.
As we close out our penultimate month, it feels surreal to look back and see how much our bonds of fellowship have grown. I, for one, can’t wait to see what we accomplish in our final 31 days.
