Today was excellent in many ways, but mostly for our accomplishments in coral research. After an early morning oceanography class, we continued the dives from yesterday to locate, mark and measure colonies of the endangered elkhorn coral. After three long dives we have succesfully set up three plots that will continue to be monitored regularly in the future to monitor coral growth, mortality and disease. Several shipmates participated in the dives and helped with the research while practicing their buoyancy skills in the shallow water. The day ended with a communications class.
