Location: Underway to the Caribbean
Another day, another blog. We have been blessed with another day of sailing on calm water. My day started at 3:30 am for our 4-8 watch, where I was woken up by James. I joined the rest of my watch team (Big Mac, Mich, Talia, Grace C., Ruby, Watson, Eduardo, Brendan, and Boston) up on deck for our briefing when we noticed Big Mac was late for watch for the first time. We gathered in the cockpit and swapped with watch team 3. We quickly devoured the brownie cupcakes that Cat made the night before, and Mich got so excited that hers crumbled all over the floor. To combat this, Grace and Brendan deckied the whole cockpit before Mac came back from making his coffee. Over the course of watch, we talked about family vacations, holding babies, and the constellations in the sky. Eduardo joined the four-hour helm club alongside Grace C., Audrey, Dan, Brendan, and Amy. The sun started to rise, and we were treated to a beautiful pink sky. After another great watch, it was time to wake up and watch team 2 for their 8-12 shift. Many of them were out cold when I woke them up with lines all over their face. Our watch team quickly scurried downstairs to climb back into bed. Some slept in until 11:30, and others got in some more Nav Master practice before the test. Lunchtime came around, and we enjoyed walking tacos made by Eliza. Everyone participated in the cleanup, and then we piled in the salon for leadership to watch Invictus. During cleanup, a very funny accident occurred when Luke dropped the compost bin on Grace Ns head. All is well, though she is okay. A highlight of the day was the AC being turned on for the first time, we all were very grateful as the temperature continues to rise as we make our way to the Caribbean.
After the movie, people on my watch team made their way on deck for our 2-6 watch while the first group for Nav Master took their test. Others who had free time took a nap, did laundry, worked out, or worked on their research project. As my watch team (plus our honorary member, Luke) tightened the main staysail preventer line, we smelled the burning smoke from Liams bread rolls, which may have enjoyed too long of a nap in the oven. Luckily, the fire alarm did not go off, but we did have new hockey pucks to chuck off the boat. Dinner time rolled around, and it was time to gather everyone in the cockpit for bacon and peas risotto, cheffed up by Eliza, Elis, and Talia. We ended dinner with our appreciation and my question, What is your favorite quote from someone on the boat. The answers were pretty funny and gave everyone a good laugh. To end squeeze, we all screamed at the top of our lungs, cause why not, were in the middle of the Atlantic. Finally, the sunset and everyone cleaned up and either went to the watch or enjoyed their free time. Thats all for day 68. Time has been flying! Sending love to my family and friends, thinking of you guys. I wont have another opportunity to wish you a happy Thanksgiving before arriving in the Caribbean, so I hope its not too boring without me. To Eliss family, she says hi, and she loves and misses you!
With love,
Chloe
