And just like that, were one day closer.
Time on passage is an interesting thing. One day can feel like both an eternity and the blink of an eye. It seems simultaneous like weve been here forever and no time at all. But, at the same time, no matter how quickly we want our four hours of watch to go or how long we want the eight before our next to be, time continues marching on, constant and unyielding. And every day, every hour, every minute brings us that much closer to our goal.
During passage life, where minutes blur into hours and hours blur into days, in the end, its about finding the small things that make each day different, small moments of joythe sunset. A 4:30 am foot massage. A fresh banana. Going back to sleep after night watch. (And sometimes, if the only joy to be found in a day is that at the end of it, we are one-day closer, thats alright too.) Those moments of joy, whether small or large, remind us not only that time is passing but that every day is a new adventure. Every day there are thousands of little instances that have the possibility to be amazing. Every day there are countless new things to see, to learn, to experience. And this passage is not only about crossing the Atlantic but about seeking out and embracing those moments of learning, of adventure. Its about sitting on the roof of the chart house talking with Dylan about birds. Its about learning how to use the sextant and then spending the next 30 minutes doing calculations with Garret to make sense of the sextant reading. Its about stringing together all of the myriad snippets of conversations shared with each of the other crewmates to understand the complex, unique, wonderful people they are.
Every day is filled with countless of those moments of learning, wonder, beauty, joy, and just like that, were one day closer.
