Starting yesterday after dinner, Ocean Star’s crew broke into watch teams, each with six shipmates. For the entire journey from West End, BVI’s to Nevis, the three watch teams rotated through shifts of 3 hours on and 6 hours off in order to ensure safe passage. Those who weren’t on bow watch were either in the cockpit, at the helm, or walking through the galley, salon, and engine room to make sure everything was running smoothly. We spotted land (Saba) around 07:00 after several hours of the open sea. One shipmate told me that only 20% of the world’s population ever travels past the sight of land within their lifetimes; now, we are all among that 20%. Following a delicious quesadilla dinner courtesy of Beaker and Ev, we finally picked up a mooring at Nevis around 18:30, more than 24 hours after leaving the BVIs. Congrats to Ocean Star’s Fall ’08 crew on a successful 1st passage.
