Location: St. Barths
We arrived this morning in Gustavia, St. Barths after a gorgeous overnight sail from Barbuda. We sailed off our anchor in Barbuda at 9pm, and by 6:30 we were anchored in Gustavia, all without using the engine. It was a beautiful night, racing along on a broad reach in 10 – 12 kts of breeze and clear skies, with shooting stars and a full moon to light our way. After breakfast, the crew of Ocean Star went to work putting her to rights, cleaning the bottom, waxing the hull, and scrubbing indiscriminately. Just before lunch we moved the boat stern-to the dock in downtown Gustavia, a harbor frequented by the rich and glamorous. We ended up docking right next to the Open 60 PRB, fresh from it’s successes in the Route du Rhum. We turned the students loose on shore for the day before having burgers for dinner at Le Select, the bar that is said to be the inspiration for Jimmy Buffet’s song “Cheeseburger in Paradise.” What a wonderful way to celebrate our arrival on a beautiful island.
