It was a great day on board the mighty schooner Argo- and we were really schoonin today! We started off with some ripping early morning watches, averaging speeds of 9+ knots! We have been mostly sailing with our mainsail, foresail, staysail, and jib. On our 4-8 watch, we chatted all sorts of things about Boston, sailing, and the sea, and we were even treated to the 5th Harry Potter book, summed up by Everett! Thank you, Everett! When the wind dropped down, we dropped the jibs and turned on our engine to keep our speed up. When it was time for lunch, we got all of our shipmates up and had a delicious lunch of grilled cheese and tomato soup, expertly prepared by head chef Clam and sous chefs Claire and Sadie.
After lunch, I led a leadership class where we talked about which leadership quotes from the Tao te Ching we most related to, and what leadership qualities these quotes represent. After that, 40B students took their NavMaster practice exam in order to be prepared to lock in for the final exam soon. Students have been busy preparing for final essays being due in both marine bio and leadership, as well as studying for final quizzes of marine bio. We finished the night with a cute squeeze session where we all said our favorite things about the person to our left. As the sun was setting, the vibes were high, and as we all prepared for clean up, we stopped to watch the sun dip below the horizon, and we saw THE GREEN FLASH! For many, it was the first time seeing it, and even for those who have seen it before, it is always a special treat. We are cruising along as I write this at 9.3 knots, readying for a night of laughs, sail handling, and appreciation for where we are and what we are doing! It is a pleasure sailing with everyone on board, and we are all so excited to continue the adventure!
