Location: Sandy Island, Carriacou
Today, we left Grenada for a short sail north to Carriacou. We started the day by raising our anchors and prepping for a day of sailing. Today’s sailing was special because we got to raise our flying jib for the first time. The flying jib sits at the front of Ocean Star and is raised above the normal jib during specific wind conditions. What stood out to me during the process of raising Ocean Star’s sails today was that all the students on board are starting to look more and more like a proper crew. After we raised each sail, we’d go straight to work on the next one and get it done quicker and with far less confusion than the last. Seeing our constant improvement is getting me more and more excited for a student-led passage. Our final destination for the day was an uninhabited island called Sandy Island.
