Location: Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today was full of intros to life aboard the Vela! We got our first jobs on the job wheel today- in the photos, you can see our schedule, deckies (deck cleaners), gophers (getting food from below to above and vice versa), and salties (who are cleaning the dishes)- while I, the Skipper, was doing the very important job of taking pictures. After that, we tried on our safety devices, which taught us that bright orange is everyone’s best color! Then we could set sail! As part of setting sail, we caught dock lines and coiled and deflated the fenders. After that, we put up a sail!! However, that was when the first round of seasickness-but everyone made it, though! Finally, we got to anchor in Savannah Bay and took our first swim in the BVI! For the swim test, we did four laps around the ship and then trod water for 10 minutes (it was not as hard as it sounds). We then got to have our first ocean shower. Overall, it was a great second day with 19 nautical miles under our belt!
