It has been a crazy ride these last 38 days, but today is the last full day on board Argo for this crew of 32 people. Today was full of lasts. Last time the chef would forget to wake up and cook breakfast, last (full) meal on Argo, last count off, and last squeeze. Today started off pretty slow as many of the crew were up late finishing up their cards and taking time to sit down and have some final guitar sessions. After doing three rounds of wake-ups, I decided it was time to use the lights to my advantage, so after turning on every white light up forward to brighten things up, the crew crawled their way out of their bunks and moved their naps to the cockpit so they would be ready for cleanup.
Breakfast this morning was a quick one of yogurt and granola, pulled together by Payton and his sous chefs, Jack and Greyson. Breakfast wrapped up, and we broke into our final big clean of Argo. Shane and Zac led the team of Avery, Logan, Brady, Sadie, Ella, Brig, Payton, and Dylan to clean the deck while everyone else was down below finishing packing and doing a final galley and head clean. Emily and Emma were our trash masters today, so they had the big job of removing everyone’s final snack trash, as there seemed to be a lot of wrappers stored away to try and get out of trashmastering along the way. As the morning rolled by, Argo started to look like she did 39 days ago again. Suitcases packed and ready to go stacked in the saloon, bunks tidy without the last week of laundry sitting at the foot, and the heads nice and clean.
Our last afternoon was spent doing the last floor scrub before heading to shore for some last-minute souvenir shopping. To wrap up our night, we did the final squeeze, where everyone shared the first story they are going to tell their families when they get home. Final dinner was out at a tapas restaurant where many people tried some local dishes, and other pickier eaters (like myself) enjoyed a burger. As we are winding down our final hours on the boat, I can hear Shane playing guitar on top of the chart house with Rook and Alex singing along. Lou Lou, Jack, Mimi, Henry, Macie, Logan, Brady, and Avery are all sitting in the saloon reminiscing about all of the adventures they have had.
