Location: Palau

This morning was definitely the most eventful morning we’ve had since arrival. At around 7:15 am, we began the process of leaving the area of the dock that we were anchored at to get fuel from Sam’s Tours. The whole process of moving Argo is very detailed and lengthy and takes the whole crew to accomplish. My job was to be the relay between Tim, our captain, and Amanda C., our program manager, as she was on a dinghy and couldn’t communicate directly with Tim. Of course, as we are beginning our first move of Argo, it began POURING and continued to pour on us the entire time without letting up until we had finally completed the move and successfully docked at Sam’s. We then finally ate our breakfast which was crepes made by Tim, Rykleigh, and Will. We had some free time after breakfast, and then we convened in the salon for our “intro to academics,” which prepared us for taking classes on a boat without the internet (so weird). After that, we had Greek salad for lunch (not my fav). After lunch, we got to listen to our new friend, Matt, who taught us a lot about Palau’s history and interesting information. I really enjoyed his talk. We then began to dive into the classes that we will be taking on board this semester! I am especially excited about Marine Biology with Carolyn and getting to learn more about the marine life that is surrounding us for the next three months! We had some free time after that, and a few of us made some friendship bracelets and got to talk about our pets and families, which was pretty cool! Then we got to move Argo off the dock and out into the bay a little bit, which was SUPER COOL. Since we are now out at anchor, our anchor watch shifts start tonight. Overall, we had a pretty awesome day, and I can’t wait to continue experiencing new things with my new family!
