Location: Atlantic Ocean

Last night was the first full watch with my watch group. Our group is me, Runyon, Arabella, Nora, and Will. It was a pretty quiet watch, as everyone was super tired, but we still managed to make it fun. I heard the sound of splashing in the cockpit and turned to see Runyon throwing up in the cockpit, but he cleaned it up, and we all had a laugh about it and kept on watching. Will and I got to the helm, which was dope cause we got to control the whole boat- a stressful but also awesome responsibility. During watch, we got hit by a small squall, which was a lot of fun. I was stressed at first, but I knew everything was going to be ok when I looked at Tom, and he had the biggest grin on his face. After the early watch, I knocked out hard and prepared for another day. Waking up, I realized that this would be the first full day at sea with no land in sight. It was such a cool feeling to wake up and climb the stairs to the deck and look around and see nothing but sea in all directions. Today was a pretty lazy day; I spent most of my morning talking to Anda and Arabella while finishing my essay for our leadership class. While we were talking, we got summoned to Nautical Science, where Mac taught us a lot about charts. We didn’t get to do any physical chart work because that would require going below deck for a long time, something that no one is ready for yet. The chefs, Joey, Charley, and Johnathan, made us two very good meals today: walkin’ tacos and chicken and veggies, which helped everyone forget about the seasickness for a little. Overall, today was a pretty sleepy day for me and many other people, but the days should start livening up as everyone starts to get used to the rocking of the boat.

Also, I just wanted to drop a special hello to my parents and tell Brendan I wish him a happy birthday because I won’t be able to tell him myself.

Love from the whole crew to the families reading this,
Garrett
