Location: Underway to Tangier

We kicked off the day at 7 AM, not quite sure what was ahead. Our plans to head to Morocco had to be put on hold thanks to some heavy winds. Breakfast was a nice spread of cornbread and fruit bowls made by Mac, James, and Ruby. We were waiting for a response from a port in Tangier, but no one seemed to be answering our emails or calls. Thankfully, Tom managed to reach out to a Canadian couple at the port who got us sorted.

Once we heard that we had a spot, all the students were relieved. Morocco has been one of the stops we’re most excited about. It’s so different from anything we’re used to and has cool activities (like sand surfing) waiting for us. By 11 AM, we were off, sailing toward the Strait of Gibraltar. Lunch was a tasty pistachio pesto pasta.

Crossing the Strait went smoothlythe wind was behind us, and we were cruising along. We even saw some short-beaked dolphins and a sunfish in the waves nearby. Later, Grace C, Elis, and Ruby gave a presentation on the importance of relationships in leadership and how to handle problems productively. We also had a marine biology lesson about marine birds.

I had a two-hour watch shift with my team, where we managed some sail handling and passed a bunch of cargo ships in the Strait. When we finally pulled into Tangier, there was time to read, study, and chill. Dinner was a yummy shepherd’s pie, and just before bedtime, the authorities came by to check passports and do a quick inspection. Everything went smoothly, and we were officially in Morocco!

Now we’re all winding down in the salon, catching up on work and watching “Stand By Me.” Overall, a pretty solid day. The next week is a bit of a mystery, but we’re all really looking forward to exploring North Africa. Personally, I can’t wait to get to Marrakech!

Good night!
