Location: Tangier, Morocco
This morning, we woke up in Africa!!! It was many people’s first time here, including mine. While Tangier wasn’t where we were expecting to start off our Africa journey, we were all grateful to be here. Our morning started off with bacon, egg, and cheeses courtesy of our lovely galley team today: Chloe, Emma, and Elis. Post breakfast was boat appreciation. I volunteered to clean the oven, which I regretted about 20 minutes into the 1.5-hour process. Luckily, Emma kept us entertained with some Coldplay in the background. While Watson, Brendan, Ben, and I sang our hearts out in the salon/galley, the rest of the crew got to work cleaning bunks, floors, decks, and really any space you could think of. Vela has never looked so good.
We were rewarded for our hard work with chickpea salad sandwiches. We then split into our Port and Starboard teams, or Gryffindor and Slytherin, in Halloween fashion. These teams are for our Nav Master class, where a little friendly competition is brewing. Sadly, Slytherin is off to a rough start after losing some points for late students. In our free time, Ruby, Cat, and I went for a walk around the city to explore this new place. We were very unaware of how to order a coffee and the etiquette for buying pastries, so we opted for a small convenience store and a park to relax in. Back in class, Liam and I were on fire, plotting navigational points and finding correct courses. We even got a lovely surprise when Dan, Eliza, and James came back on board in traditional robes.
For dinner, we had some amazing spicy honey chicken, and Jessie even made bread a second time because it was so good at lunch. For my squeeze question, I asked what you would do if you found a penguin in your fridge. The responses were as creative and random as you would expect. We end the night with an Oceanography quiz that everybody is actively cramming for, so I better go join them.
Much love to any of my family reading, miss and love you so much!
Special happy birthday message to Grace N’s mom!
