Location: Underway to the Cape Verde Islands
Looking at the chart house trip log, it currently reads 2499nm. That means that this crew of Argo has travelled the equivalent distance of a cross country trip from one side of the States to the other. Yet this is nothing compared to what is ahead of us. After several very productive days in the Canary Islands. Days filled with exploration, changing light bulbs in the rigging, de-greasing the bottom of the engine room bilges, provisioning a boat for the next month and lounging on a beach, Argo is ready for an ocean crossing. A crossing that will take us south to the Cape Verde Islands and then due west to the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. A total distance of more than 3,200 nautical miles. As we left the dock this evening the crew was wished a safe trip by the neighboring yachts and fuel dock, as horns could be heard giving the one short farewell blast to the crew. Now as the sun sets off the bow, we are filled with excitement for this new type of adventure, where now the real experience is all about the journey instead of the destination. As Robert Frost would say we truly have taken the road less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
