Location: Underway to mainland
The day started with watch team two’s watch, where we proved ourselves to be the most fun group by starting the Percy Jackson audiobook. I threw up overboard on a bioluminescent jellyfish, which is really the way to do it. Then, watch team three relieve us at 4 a.m. Most of the boat slept until lunch, where we lost many brave soldiers (potato chips) to the enemy (so much wind). With no concrete destination and some pretty big waves, we started class. Everyone was such a trooper as we each gave a five-minute Ted Talk on a topic of our choosing, despite seasickness and sleepiness. Now we know that Eric is an ultimate frisbee wiz; Gabby has a bee-keeping empire; Caroline sort of joined a cult; Miles prepares three-course meals for his pygmy goats; Calli is going to save the world through climate activism; Greta does ski jumping; and so much more. Then, everybody caught up on naps and schoolwork until dinner, when Chelsea and her team served us delicious enchiladas and monkey bread. Callum announced our new destination: Cartagena! Hopefully, they have good gelato there. It’s another night of watch coming up, which means shooting stars, bioluminescence, and chatting about everything from reality TV to dealbreakers to what goodies we’re going to eat the second we get home. A lot of people really seem to be craving bagels, which much of Europe lacks.
