Location: Fiji

The crew woke up bright and early this morning, excited and maybe a little scared for what the next part of our journey entails. Everyone squeezed in the last calls to home before turning our phones off for the foreseeable future. After our bellies were full of breakfast, we then got to work on getting our girl ready for the three-week passage. There was a lot to do before Vela was ready to set sail. After hours of blood, sweat, and tears, we got to speed shop for any last-minute essentials we needed. ( I got gummy bears and Red Bull.) Then after a visit from customs and a clean Landry delivery (halleluiah) we were ready to raise the sails for the first time since we stepped on board with a beautiful sunset to send us off on our journey. We ate Mac and Cheese for dinner courtesy of Chef Tougy, and talked about what our boats would be named if we had our own. Tonight, we are going to split into our watch teams for the first time and get ready for this new life we will have on board for the next three weeks. Though it was sad to say goodbye to FIJI, the crew is welcoming the adventure with open arms.
