Location: Cape Town, South Africa

We’ve finally arrived at our final destination, Cape Town! Our morning watches on the way in were filled with various marine life, including dolphins, whales, seals, penguins, and ocean sunfish, docked right in the heart of the V&A Waterfront alongside the historic World War One warship S.A.S. Somerset, we began a small boat appreciation to get Argo back in tip-top shape. With the incentive of shore time, we quickly cleaned the deck and topsides and were free to go immediately after lunch. Many of the crew checked out the Volvo Ocean Race boats docked farther out in the same marina as us. We hope to find a good spot to view their nearshore race tomorrow. In the next couple of days, they will head off from Cape Town onto their next leg, Melbourne, AUS. Jules, Claire R, Lindsay, Steph, and I (all the marine bio people) instead went to the nearby aquarium and had a nice nerd-out with some penguins. Now that dinner is over, we have a night out organized at a nearby lounge/brewery, which sounds like it’ll make for an exceptional evening!
