Location: Underway to Madeira
A couple of taps on the shoulder followed by a cheerful hola! and I roll over to see Xavie grinning ear to ear as he wakes me for my 4 a.m. watch. I stumble my way to my locker, trying to match the rock of the boat in the washer machine-type conditions we were having. I throw on my foul-weather gear and climb up on deck, still under the spell of seasickness from yesterday in the galley. Watch starts off quiet, everyone still shaking off their sleep, but morale slowly builds as sea shanties start to ring through the air.
By lunchtime, Argo had 5 of her six sails up as she navigated through the troughs and over the crests of the swell that appeared more as great blue hills and valleys.
Just before dinner was up, Sean and I climbed out on the bowsprit to flake the flying jib. We heard Gordon and Skylar yell, Big wave! just before getting dunked into the sea like cookies in milk. We got the job done and even shared a couple of laughs about it while back on board.
For our meals, our chefs, Caroline, Liam, and Xavier, put on a true display of determination as they powered through the seasick-inducing conditions and provided us with some delicious meals.
The squeeze question for today was What brought you to Argo? and it was interesting listening to everyones responses.
Of course, it would not be a day on Argo without a visit from a pod of dolphins surfing in the waves off our beam. Thats all for today, just another good day at sea.
