Location: Tarragona, Spain

We got to explore Barcelona today! Getting everyone up this morning earlier than usual was quite the task. Once we were all up and at ’em and had grabbed a few slices of cold pizza from the night before, we managed to put the pedal to the metal and made our tour bus on time. After a two-hour trek across the Spanish countryside, we reached Barcelona, where we met our tour guide, Danny. The tour was super nice because we all got these little radios that transmitted his voice to us, so we could wander around and look at some cool architecture without missing any of the fun facts he was dishing out. Rushing around Spain trying to see everything while Danny narrated was a lot like trying to sip from a firehose of culture, information, and history. I know that I, like many others, walked past many a shop or art gallery that would have been awesome to explore if we had had the time. Still, it was a fascinating fever dream of a tour full of empanadas, bat references in window design (we learned today that bats are considered good luck in Spain), and stunning old courtyards.

Upon returning to the boat, we found that our bedding had been laundered by our Saint Leonie and our dinner already prepared by the angelic Shona, which was quite the relief after such a long day away from our home on the boat. The joy of coming back to our home to relax was only intensified when we realized we had ice cream leftover from the previous night, which we “had to” get rid of before the upcoming passage tomorrow. My squeeze question for the day (which I stole from Liz – thank you, Liz) was which song is the soundtrack to your life. Brianne had an excellent idea of compiling all the answers into a group playlist, which I can’t wait to hear!!

1. The crew in front of the Barcelona Cathedral! L2R Dani, Sam, Emerson, Bubba, Tyler, Savanna, Clara
2. The infamous La Sagrada Familia
3. A window that was supposedly modeled after the shape of a bat:
4. A stunning, meditative hidden courtyard spotted through a small doorway in a narrow alley:
