Location: Underway to Palau
Today, Saturday, June 21st, 2025, was a very calm, fun, and relaxing day for all aboard the Vela! Starting off the day with the night watches, Team 3, which consisted of me, followed by Madi, Ryan, Charles, Ceci, Ty, Garret, Dan, and Sam at a bright and early 12-4 am! We had a nice, calm watch under the gorgeous sight of the Milky Way and the endless stars above us. We played “Guess the Celebrity,” where we won and lost some of the games, and Charles stumped us with his expertise as an astrophysicist. Then the view of Watch Team 1 came into view, and we were relieved for the time being. While waiting for the showers I ended up falling asleep in an amazing position with the help of my EXTREMELY helpful fan that kept me fairly cool throughout the night, then at 11, woke up to get my shower, and went up on deck to get some air and relax for a little before lunch started. Lunch today was breakfast burritos, with our Head Chef Jill’s take on hashbrowns, which ended up a good solid meal that helped us power through a lot of the day!
After lunch was a small Seamanship class that we learned about calculating variations and such that would help us while we chart in the future, which was taught by Claire and Sam. Watch team 1 had the afternoon watch, and they saw a whale. It surfed the waves behind the boat for a few hours after I got a small nap in before it was time for everyone to come up for dinner, which was chicken and broccoli with pasta, which should help me get through the night tonight and get some good nnight’srest before my night watch with Team 3 tonight. And for everyone reading this at home, if you could control one element. Like fire, earth, water, space, light, etc., what would you control? For now, aall’swell that ends well, and tonight is no different! And like every other night, I say goodnight to the waves, this beautiful ship Vela, my brother Eva, my mom and dad, and my two dogs and bunny! On the bright blue ocean, anything is possible.
