Location: Galleon Beach, Antigua
Hello, world!!
Our first 24 hours on Ocean Star have somehow felt more like two days. Long travel days from the US, Canada, and Brazil, the Ocean Star crew has all made it safely and soundly on board! Many of us shared the brilliant idea of a slumber party in hammocks last night! How fun! Yeah, until the 5 am showers rolled in. All I could do was smile, though. The chirping birds, waves crashing, the gorgeous sunrise of our first morning in Antigua, and the rain were just the cherry on top. I had the honor of waking everyone up about 2 hours later, but most were already awake and taking in the beauty of our new home. As smiling faces filled the deck, we were greeted with a wonderful breakfast followed by vessel tours and academic intros! Of course, everyone has been antsy to get into the water since we arrived, but patience was stretched as the day got warmer, and two anchors were stuck as we made our way off the dock. But four rockstar instructors later, we were free and headed to our first anchor spot! Everyone was in the water immediately! Swim tests and showers were completed, all while having a heated conversation about our bagel orders. Before we knew it, the sun was setting. We had an incredible dinner (the food has been amazing for those wondering), cleaned, and those brand new to diving get to start with their first Open Water video tonight! Day 2 was incredible. Everyone is having a blast getting to know each other and adjusting to our new way of life! Smiles all around constantly!
I miss you, Lucas, Mom, Kellyn, Braylon, Zeus, Scarlet, and Celery! I’ll sail you here one day!
This experience has been absolutely surreal so far, and I am so so excited to see where these 80 days take us!
