Location: Galleon Beach, Antigua

As the crew headed into day three here in Antigua, it’s been surreal getting to know everyone on board better by the moment, understanding life aboard OceanStar, and having the coolest classroom imaginable. We started the morning with a quick jump off the bow, followed by homemade everything bagels and watermelon. I started the day with my night watch shift from 1- 2 am and got to see some unreal shooting stars and patrol the boat for any pirates. Those of us who are SCUBA certified got to embark on the first dive as they shook the rust off; others took the saloon as we learned and understood the process of SCUBA diving for tomorrow! Every 30 or so minutes, we would take a quick break from the scorching hot saloon and certification videos to run up and dive into the water. We learned all the safety precautions of Ocean Star, like how to deal with a man overboard, a flood on the boat, and a fire. My personal favorite part of the day was getting to activate the water hose for fire and teaming up to pump water from the sea to spray the hose. During these courses, we were greeted by curious Green Sea Turtles as they came for a visit during class. The day wrapped up with many more dives and flips off the boat and an awesome dinner of cabbage pancakes, and tons of laughs. I couldn’t be more grateful for Drew and Nick, who saved the day by unclogging our one of two heads, a huge win for the program!
Having truly had the best time meeting my new family for the next 80 days in beautiful Antigua! I Miss everyone back home so much, love you guys, and see you in 77!
