Location: Underway to Komodo
We just left Raja Ampat yesterday afternoon, so this is the first full day of what is supposed to be a 5-ish day passage. My watch team, watch team 1, started with the 8-12 last night and 8-12 this morning. Last night was pretty uneventful; it just rained for all four hours, but we all had good conversations about movies we love and want to see when we get back home. When we woke up this morning, it was still raining, but then the rain cleared up, and it was sunny and warm! The rain was kind of nice because it had been super hot recently, so it was nice to get a bit of a chill. During our morning watch, we raised both of the staysails, which are helping us get an extra knot or so on our speed. It’s so fun to move fast, especially with sails up. After watch, we had lunch, which was Garrett’s famous orange chicken, and he was assisted by Zoe and Reese. Absolutely fantastic meal, 10/10, would eat again. After lunch, we had a leadership class in the cockpit where we talked about different leadership styles. During class, we all hear a splash off the stern, and we turn and look, and we see a reef manta jump out of the water. It was absolutely insane. Then the marine bio students had their 3rd exam (we are almost done with the course, it’s crazy!), which was really nice to get over with. Supposedly, another watch team saw whales today, but I didn’t see them, so it must have been pretty boring. Anyway, for dinner we had pizza (thank you, chefs, for literally cooking all afternoon). It was way too good. We did squeeze, and my question was “what is your dream concert,” but with no limitations. Alive, dead, unlimited number, any venue. Everyone was saying Queen, Prince, Led Zeppelin, or Fleetwood Mac, but I think mine was the best. My dream concert is a Jason derulo x harry styles concert where Jason derulo comes out and does an eras tour of all of his albums and then harry comes out and does his little concert until he starts singing story of my life and every one direction member comes out and sings with him and then it turns into a one direction concert (RIP Liam Payne). Sounds pretty fire to me. We are on the 6-8 watch right now, and I’ll be heading to bed as soon as watch is done.
To mom and dad, I miss you guys so much! Mom, I can’t wait to see you at the airport, and Dad, I can’t wait to see you in Tuscaloosa!
