Location: Roseau, Dominica

Today’s blog starts last night, with yesterday’s blog lecture posted. Just before bedtime, we were honoured with Shane’s visit on Argo. Shane is a marine mammal researcher who has spent over 20 years studying whale behaviour. He presented his results on sperm whale communication studies. Everyone loved it.

This morning, after an early wake-up and a yummy breakfast cheffed by Phil, students split into two groups. Skylar, Gavi, and Rachel were taken on a waterfall tour around the island (more on this below), and the rest of us went hiking. Local guide Pancho took us through the rainforest and volcanoes up to a boiling lake. He cooked eggs for us in the thermal waters and offered some delicious homemade fish saut. During the hike, Sarah, Sydney, Jonas, and others had the chance to swim in the hot water springs. Before returning to the car, the hikers swam up the river through a narrow canyon leading to a waterfall, where Avery and both Martins performed some acrobatic rope jumping.

Notes from Skylar (thanks!): “On an alternate path, Rachel, Gavy, and Skylar set out to explore the island and visit the waterfalls. Octavius “Sea Cat” Octopus was their transport, fruit provider, and guide. They explored the stunning Emerald Pools, Titou Gorge, and Trafalgar Falls, with plenty of stops for fruit and breathtaking views in between. The whole day was full of adventure, fun, and cleansing.”

Before returning to Argo, hikers and waterfallers met in the local grocery store to provision ahead of the next passage to Bonaire.
In the dinghy dock, Stella, Jazmyne, and Helena shared some thoughts about life and bottles with local fisherman? Marcus.

Everyone is ready for bed now after a fun but exhausting day in Dominicamore activities to come tomorrow.

Saludos a Mam y a las tas,

Nacho
