Location: Underway to Saint Helena

Watch team 2 started off the day with the 4-8 am watch. We spent the hours laughing and not so silently praying for the sun to rise and bring with it energy and motivation to stay awake. Once we finally had light, we were graced with bright yellow sun rays poking through clouds over a very dark sea.

While half the boat slept, Emma, Nashota, Reed, Alexa, and Perry kindly spent their 8-12 working watch cleaning and organising the galley and saloon, leaving many of us with a lovely surprise to wake up to!

At 12:00, we all hurried up for a lovely-smelling lunch. Sam and Alexa prepared a delicious Moroccan curry with rice! We ended lunch with Mac letting us know that we will be arriving in St Helena tomorrow. All of the cleanup was spent chattering in anticipation of our arrival!

After lunch, we headed down to the saloon for our Oceanography and Leadership classes. We managed to escape the rain outside and discovered that the boat does, in fact, have air conditioning. We discussed the meaning of community with Emma and created our vow to vela for this semester. Unfortunately, Kyler and Zoe were on watch during the rain, which resulted in their daily shower count growing from 1 to 2.

A few other students and I ended our school day with PSCT class. We went over lights and day shapes in preparation for our upcoming COLREGS exam. After class, we ate an amazing noodle stir fry with chicken. We ended dinner with yummy, slightly melted popsicle sticks that got everywhere, leaving a lovely cleanup for our poor deckies.

For my squeeze question, I asked everyone what they would have an infinite supply of on the boat. We were all very quick to answer by describing the clean clothes, fresh cold water, and yummy snacks that have been plaguing our dreams for the past two weeks. I decided to end with a game of Secret Killer. We all spent cleaning up, trying to avoid getting tagged out of the game by the mysterious killer. Mac took it upon himself to wreak havoc in our game by impersonating the killer. The game ended with the true killer, Perry, getting attacked by hose water and a deck brush. Despite being soaked, he still succeeded and won the game!

We are all ending today extremely excited to reach land tomorrow!

That’s all for tonight!

Lots of love,
Vittoria
