Location: Fernando De Noronha
Today was another amazing day in Fernando! In the early hours, we were hit with an abrupt squall, disrupting some beauty sleep up on deck where Grant and I had set up our hammocks for the night. But the weather cleared up in time for a wonderful breakfast of eggs and bacon prepared by Vittoria. After we ate, we headed back to shore for an oceanography lab and beach day. During the lab, we learned about the different wave classifications and how to measure the gradient of the beach. We spent the rest of the day swimming, playing football, relaxing, and exploring the island of Fernando! Theres incredible lush foliage, horses, and aa shops throughout the island to enjoy. We headed back to Vela for an incredible homemade gnocchi dinner. Vittoria had been preparing this gnocchi since last night, and it was truly delicious (one of the top meals of the semester!). The squeeze question was If you could convert any part of Vela into something else, what would it be?, and we had some pretty creative answers. We would all love a grassy cockpit, a walk-in fridge in the Focsle, and water slides off the side of the boat, just to name a few improvements. With bellies full of gnocchi and aa, we cleaned up, and the PSCT class had their business and law exam. Were all sad that tomorrow is our final day in Fernando, and we cant wait to soak up all we can before passage prep.
To Caz, Dakota, Fiona, and Kayla – I miss you guys so much and cant wait to live it up this summer. Love ya 🩷
